About The Seminar :

Centrality of language in meaning making has been emphasized in NCF 2005. Human development, thought and communication are all  connected with language. Chomsky had pointed out that all children have a language acquisition device which facilitates language acquisition. But, language learning and language proficiency is an outcome of school education. Therefore, language education requires careful palninng.

In India, the multilingual and multicultural scenario represents the rich diversity of our country. The three languages formula has truly represented this spirit. How to use multilingualism as a resource in Indian classrooms so that all children pariticipate actively is a major concern for environment so that  children learn language effortlessly. Care has to be taken to respect all languages that the child brings to the classroom. It has been established through research that language skills get transferred from one language to the other.

Another important aspect of language learning is the fact that it is not limited to language classroom only. Language is happening in all subjects, that  is, languages is spread across the curriculum. So, NCF 2005 suggests that all subject teachers contribute equally in language learning. Language education is facilitated by the theatre, movies, art and aesthetics, information and communication technologies. Many innovative Startegies are being utilized to make language learning Intresting.

Regional Institute Of Education, Bhopal adresses the educational needs of Western region of India where the prominent language are Hindi, Marathi, English, Urdu, Gujrati. It was realized that a dialogue amongst these languages was essential to understand multilangualism which is special feature of the western Regio. To promote quality of education it is important to address language education and appreciate the experimentation that  is taking place in Marathi, Hindi,  English, Urdu and Gujrati. Thus, the genesis of this National Seminar On Language Education and the feeling of co-operation, support and desire to learn from each other.

Objective Of National Seminar :

  • To raise awareness about innovations in language education in different languages
  • To strengthen language education by understanding the effective Startegies used in teaching different languages
  • To promote multilingual education
  • To understand linkage between literature and language education
  • To understand concept of language across the curriculum
  • To discuss role of grammar in language education
  • To promote use of ICT in language education
  • To understand translation and language education
  • To integrate theatre, films, music, and aesthetics in language education

This seminar has nine themes and all are connected with ares of significance in language education. These themes are as follows :

  2. Effective methods in language teaching
  3. Multinfualism and language education
  4. Literature and language education
  5. Social science, science and language education
  6. Grammer and language education
  7. ICT and language education
  8. Translation and language education
  9. Theatre, films, music, social life and language education

We appreciate the response received from different parts of India for this seminar. There were 275 papers in all the five languages and after screening 204 are finally included for presentation in the seminar.
